Transforming Chaplaincy co-director awarded COMISS Medal
We’re proud to pass on this excited news from Russell Davis, President of COMISS, The Network on Ministry in Specialized Settings. Congratulations, Dr. Cadge!
The COMISS Network: The Network on Ministry in Specialized Settings has awarded Wendy Cadge, MA, PhD the prestigious COMISS Medal for her significant contribution to pastoral care. Cadge has contributed more than 15 years of scholarship and research in the areas of chaplaincy and sociology of religion both in the United States as well as in the United Kingdom, Israel, Thailand, Sri Lanka and elsewhere. The Selection Committee noted the length and depth of her contribution to international spiritual and pastoral care.
Cadge’s CV includes publication of more than 60 articles, multiple books and 14 book chapters, more than 50 book reviews and op-ed pieces, over two dozen externally funded research grants and many internally funded grants. She is the author of the seminal book Paging God: Religion in the Halls of Medicine (2012) which “takes readers inside major academic medical institutions to explore how today’s doctors and hospitals address prayer and other forms of religion and spirituality.”1 Her interest in chaplaincy is not limited to healthcare chaplaincy, and publications include articles on airport chaplains and chapels, maritime chaplains and congressional chaplains.
The COMISS Network: The Network of Ministry in Specialized Settings is a national network on ministry with organizational membership representing pastoral care and counseling in virtually all specialized settings. The COMISS Medal is the organization’s highest honor and has been awarded only eleven times since its inception. The first recipient in 1988 was Henri Nouwen, Catholic priest and celebrated author of more than thirty books on pastoral care.
